Addis to Host Energy, Water Financing Forum

A Clean Start Connect forum, which is expected to act as a benchmark for the launch of the Clean Start Programme in Ethiopia in the coming months, is to take place in Addis Abeba on October 30 and 31 at the Hilton Hotel.

The programme targets supporting low-income households and micro-entrepreneurs to enhance their access to clean energy through microfinance. Hence, it is coming to Ethiopia with the theme of ‘Innovation in clean energy and water access through microfinance’.

The forum, which will be hosted by the Participatory Microfinance Group for Africa (PAMIGA) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), is to combine two events: PAMIGA’s expert meeting on lessons learned from Africa to improve access to clean energy and water through microfinance and the UNCDF’s Clean Start Connect 2014, which unites leading energy and financial service providers, investors, policymakers and development partners to advance practical solutions to reducing energy poverty.

The concern issues are consumer financial models through microfinance and village electrification, impact investment for scaling up and impact measurement.

Around 100 delegates from Africa, Asia, Europe and North America are expected to participate in the forum, representing financial institutions, energy and water suppliers, governments, non-governmental organissations and other development partners.
