Admas Becomes the Third Private University in Ethiopia

Accepting the request from the previous Admas University College, the Ministry of Education (MoE) awarded it with the status of University as of August 6, 2014.

This makes Admas, the third private university in the country next to Unity University and St Merry University.

The University College first requested the Higher Education Relevance & Quality Agency (HERQA) for recognition as a University on January 14, 3013, which was investigating whether the request is based on the criteria set for the level, according to a letter of recognition signed by Kaba Urgessa (PhD), state minister of Education.

“The request of the University College to be upgraded to University level is presented by fulfilling the required criteria of the law,” says the letter. “Therefore, it is given with a level of University.”

Established in October 1998 with a capital of 200,000 Br to provide tailor made trainings, Admas was upgraded to college and a University College level in 1999 and 2007 respectively. With its capital growing to 100 million Br it currently operates eight campuses with four faculties.

It has also a campus at Hargessa, the capital city of Somali Land. In addition to it’s around 60 centers of distance education across the country, Admas is also set to launch degree program in hotel management and tourism management at its Megenagna campus as well as graduate studies in business administration, human resource and computer scince.
