City Administration Seeks Electronic Security for Municipality Building

The Addis Abeba City Administration (AACA) is seeking to rig municipality building with a complete electronic security system that includes cameras, scanners and monitoring systems.

The City’s Information & Communication Technology Development Agency (ICTDA) invited interested suppliers for the design, installation and implementation of integrated physical security through an advertisement published on the state English daily newspaper The Ethiopian Herald, on Sunday October 19, 2014.

This project may cost the City Administration up to 500,000 dollars, according to technicians.

The Agency wants 3D video surveillance equipment to be placed on the fence and inside the building; bag X-Ray which will screen the bags entering into the compound; human body scanning machine; metal detector; car parking management system, including car plate number reader.

Also needed are intelligent broadcast system with speakers; electronic notice board system to be placed inside and outside of the compound to display notices; ABC direction locator system, which locates where the different office are located in the compound; vehicle screening to inspect cars entering to the compound; security alarm; recording and, storage devices, with a system that can monitor no less than 3,000 cameras at a time.

“This system aims to make the security system human less and monitored mainly by electronic devices,” said a supplier of electronic security systems Fortune talked to.

The Administration decided to install the security system to protect the building, employees, and clients from any accident as well as reducing theft and vandalism, says an official.

The Administration wants the bidders not only to supply the equipment, but also to conduct analysis, design and installation implementation, and testing and commissioning of the integrated physical security system and provide training to selected professionals from the city administration and the Agency.

“This is highly a electronic system which needs special licenses for the supply and a huge investment for the city administration,” according to the business man.

The two storey municipality building which is located in the heart of piazza accommodates six offices including the Mayor’s Office, the Addis Abeba Land Bank Management & Transfer Office and the Addis Abeba Mass Media Agency.

This is a project which they city wants completed in four months of award. The financial opening of the bid will be held on December 1, 2014 at the office of the mayor.
