City Authority Bars Three from Road Tenders

One more per cent of Addis Abeba’s road infrastructure needs was constructed in the past six months, bringing the capital’s total road network to five and a half thousand kilometres.

The 1.9 billion Br undertaking enabled the accomplishment of 84pc of projects scheduled for the period. In a press conference hosted by the Addis Abeba City Roads Authority (AACRA), General Manager Fekadu Haile, said that three underperformers have been barred from further competition in tenders. Gebrehiwot, Satcon, and Ethio General will not partake in further road construction unless they seriously overhaul their capacities, he added.

The Authority blamed contractors’ lack of capacity, respective power and water Authorities’ tardy demolishing schedules, infrastructure construction requests that arrived late, and lack of inter agency cohesion for the backlog of work.

Settling right of way disputes had required the demolition of 532 houses and fences, and significant amounts of phone, power, and water lines, costing the Authority a total of 43million Br in compensation.
