City to See the Expansion of Cobbled Roads

The Addis Abeba City Roads Authority (AACRA) is set to construct 504.4Km cobblestone roads in the capital during the current fiscal year, at a cost of 1.5 billion Br. Of these, 450Km is planned to be built in various parts of the capital, while the remaining 54.4Km will be built inside 23 various condominium sites.

The project is proposed to consume 1.8 billion units of stones, and trusted to generate jobs for 60,000 people.

AACRA has secured 6.12 billion Br from the Addis Abeba City Administration (AACA), 43 million Br from the Road Fund and a loan of 204.2 million Br and 178.2 million Br, respectively, from the Government of China and in aid from France, all for the construction of 600Kms of asphalt road.

By the close of the current financial year, the Authority plans to increase the entire road network in the city to 5,275Km and having 19.8pc road coverage.
