Export Proceeds Declines Again

The amount of money secured from export reached one billion dollars in the first five months of the current fiscal year. The earning has met 60pc of the target and it is 49 million Br lower than that of the preceding fiscal year.

Efforts will be made to increase foreign trade earnings over the rest of the fiscal year by increasing volume and quantities of commodities, according to the Ministry of Trade.

So far the highest performing commodities have been packed spices, eucalyptus and roasted coffee. Chemical construction materials, molasses, tantalum, spices, gum, canned fruits, gold, honey, and live animals have shown extremely low performances this past fiscal year.
The ministry has stated that efforts will be made in the coming months to meet the plan.

Last year, the country has earned 2.8 billion dollars from the export of goods, which was seven percent lower than 2014/15. Over the past two years, exporters were complaining that the lack of foreign exchange is a major reason for the decline.
