The National Bank of Ethiopia hosted a send-off in honor of Fantaye Biftu and Newaye Kirstos Gebreab at Hilton Addis. Both served as board chairpersons of the bank.
At the ceremony, the bank presented both men with certificates of appreciation.
“Both contributed a lot to the financial and economic development of the country,” said Teklewold Atnafu, Governor of the NBE.
Newaye is known as an influential advisor to current Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and the late Meles Zenawi. He has been a senior economic advisor over the past two decades.
Fantaye, besides being board chairman of NBE, was a state minister of Trade.
Government officials, vice governors, dozens of presidents of banks and other well-known figures in the banking industry attended the farewell.
Currently, Mekonen Manyazewal is the board chairman of the Bank.
