Fikru Maru MD, founder and former CEO of the Addis Cardiac Hospital, stands as the first to face a guilty verdict in the high profile corruption case of Melaku Fenta et al.
He was among the 66 defendants, comprising government officials and businessmen, charged with maladministration, misuse of power, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The Swedish Citizen, who has been under custody for over three years, was yesterday – October, 25, 2016 – found guilty.
Following the verdict, he was sentenced to four and half years imprisonment and a 3,000-dollar fine.
With this punishment, Fikru has a high chance of going free, invoking his right to parole.
