France Gives 13m Birr to the WFP

The French government announces a contribution of around 13 million Br to the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) to provide food and nutrition Support for South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia.

The contribution helps the WFP to assist nearly 70,000 refugees, who have fled conflict in South Sudan, for one month. Other donors such as Japan, Finland, UN CERF, Germany, Switzerland, UK, Canada, and America have also contributed to the WFP. Nonetheless, the Program still needs 42 million dollars to bring food assistance to more than 500,000 refugees in Ethiopia until the end of the year. More than 180,000 refugees have arrived in Ethiopia from South Sudan since the conflict broke out in December, 2013.

The French government has also contributed more than 7.9 million Br this year to WFP’s separate program to provide nutritional support for Ethiopian children and mothers.
