Illegal Human Trafficking Causing Suffering

People are still leaving the country in illegal and dangerous routes despite the hard ship and challenges they are facing on the way and at their destination.

The main routes that Ethiopians are following in search of better salary and job opportunities are Middle East countries, Sudan and South Africa, according to a press release on illegal human trafficking by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Even though the payments made to the illegal brokers are much higher and dangerous, the youth is pursuing this dangerous path as redemption out of poverty.

Problems on the road range from accidents like suffocation in containers, drowning in sea, imprisonment, rape and sale of their internal organs causing loss of life. Those who are lucky enough to reach and settle in their targeted country face problems of abuse of labor, mental and physical abuse leading to different disorders. The ministry is conducting a campaign to create awareness on the issue.
