Italy FM visits Ethiopia for Multiple Agreements

The Foreign Minister of Italy, Paulo Gentiloni, visited Ethiopia on a two- day visit to Addis Abeba, meeting his counterpart Tedros Adhanom, right, the Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister, Sufian Ahmed, minister of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) and Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Gentiloni, who made his first tour as a Foreign Minister appointed nine months ago, made his first choice to Ethiopia proposing another business forum to be held like the one that the countries held in Lagos, Nigeria in November 2013. He also affirmed a continuous support for the peace keeping in Somalia will be delivered by his country.

The Italian foreign minister, who signed an executive Program for cultural cooperation for the years 2015-2019, said that cultural integration is very important to strengthen the relationship between the two nations. He also asserted that cooperation in tackling the problems of migration is also important.

“Ethiopia is among the five major countries in the world for Italian relationships,” stated Gentiloni.

Gentiloni also signed three agreements with Sufian; draught resilience and sustainable livelihood program to the ministry of Agriculture worth 12.9 million Euros, women economic empowerment and social integration worth 892,000 Euros and Italian support to the development of the health system in Oromia and Tigray region worth 4.15 million Euros.
