Ministry Upgrades Contractor Registry

The Ministry of Construction (MoC) is to begin a new Contractor’s Registration System for the current fiscal year. The new system is expected to end the problem of double registration.

The Ministry of Urban Development and Construction (MUDC) endorsed a directive for the Registration of Construction Professionals and Contractors back in July 2013. The directive demands construction professionals and contractors to upgrade their capacities in terms of capital, equipment and human resource. Beginning January 9, 2017, contractors who wants to participate in any bidding process must renew their license.

Registration began on October 11, 2016, and the Ministry claims it has registered over 2,000 contractors so far. This round of registration is the first since the Ministry established a few months ago through proclamation 918/2016.

Registered contractors are classified in four subsections: General Contractors, who are allowed to engage in any civil construction works except water works; Building Contractors, who are allowed to work in the construction of buildings; Road Construction Contractors, who are allowed to participate in road construction, and Special Contractors, who are specialised in a single area of construction, like foundation drilling.
