13 million Br from Honey Sale

Farmers in Dera wereda, North Shoa Zone of Oromia, secured 13 million Br from selling honey, reported the woreda animal resource, health and marketing service. 2,500 farmers of the 33 localities obtained the stated amount of income from the sale of 470,000Kg honey in the current year.

Farmers Benefit from Animal Fattening

Farmers earned over 10.8 million Br from the sale of fattened animals in Illugelal Wereda, West Shoa Zone of Oromia, according to the wereda animal resource development and health office. Over 1000 farmers have earned the stated sum from the sale of over 4,000 animals during the last four months. When compared to the same time last year, the amount of income increased by over one million Br, while the supply of fattened animals rose by 1000.

AfDB Launches over $63m for Agricultural Productivity

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and researchers have launched a 63.24 million dollar AfDB funded initiative to raise agricultural initiative and lift millions of Africans out of poverty. The five year initiative known as “Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC)” is aimed at enhancing the productivity and income derived from cassava, maize, rice and wheat- four of the six commodities dubbed as the strategic crops ofAfrica.

EthiopiaDeal Signals Cheaper Power inKenya

Lower energy costs are on the horizon for Kenyan consumers, after the government secured a 37.5 billion Shilling (441 million dollar) credit agreement to import cheaper electricity fromEthiopia. Once the 1,045Km transmission power line between the two countries is completed in 2018,Kenyawill import power at a rate of seven US cents (6.08 Sh) a kilowatt hour. The loan from the World Bank is to support the larger 1.3 billion dollar Eastern Electricity Highway Project that connect the five East African nations including the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Absence of Sublease Deters Industry Zone Investment Promotion

Ethiopia’s first and large-scale industrial zone, under development by Chinese investors, has faced investment promotion challenges due to the absence of sub-lease arrangements to firms coming to the zone. Enterprises cannot get their own title deed issued by the government when applying for land from the Eastern Industry Zone, according to members of the zone management.

Ethiopia,JapanSign Grant Agreements

EthiopiaandJapansigned a 17.3 million dollar grant agreement for the construction of educational facilities and detailed design for the rehabilitation of Lumame- Debremarkos road. Out of this fund, 16.4 million dollars will be utilized for the construction of primary and secondary schools in the Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples States.
