ERA Undertakes Road Construction with 4.7b Br

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) said it has undertaken construction, renovation and upgrading of over 2,340km of roads at a cost of 4.7 billion Birr in the past three months. Close to 259km of roads are under construction while 2,100km was up graded and renovated. The authority has targeted to construct, renovate and upgrade about 20,800km of roads at a cost of 22.9 billion Birr in the current fiscal year.

Kessem Dam Construction Nearing Completion

The water works design and supervision enterprise said efforts are undergoing to complete the construction of Kessem Dam Project launched at a cost of 2.5 billion Birr in the coming November. The project that was launched at a cost of 2.5 billion Birr, seven years ago has been finalized 85pc so far. The dam, which has a capacity of cultivating 20,000ha, can currently cultivate 15,00ha, according to Kessem Dam and Irrigation Project Manager AshenafiYelekal.

Factory Producing 400 Agrostone a Day

Agrostone Factory established in Bahir Dar Town at a cost of over 44 million Birr is producing more than 400 agrostone particles in a daily bases used for construction and partition of houses.The agrostone products would reduce construction cost of blockate by half. The factory consumes raw materials including crop leftovers and other materials and is producing over 400 products for housing construction. The factory is supplying its products to Jawi Sugar Factory and university construction purposes.

Gambella Licenses 800 Local, Foreign Investors

TheGambellaStatesaid it has issued licenses to over 800 local and foreign investors with over 4.9 billion Birr registered capital during the past 20 years. Some 709 of the investors are engaged in agricultural investment sector. Upon going operational, the investment activities are expected to create 42,862 permanent and 187,870 temporary jobs.

Investors with Registered Capital of 45.6m Br Launche Projects

Investors with an aggregate capital of over 45.6 million Birr are undertaking various projects in Gedeo Zone of Southern Regional State. Six investors are engaged in the areas of manufacturing, dry and fresh coffee milling and service rendering activates, according to the zonal trade and industry department. Investors with an aggregate capital of 259 million Birr have already launched investment projects that created over 5,000 jobs last year.

Vegetables, Fruits Harvest Increased by 146pc

Ethiopiahas produced 44 million quintals of vegetables, fruits and beet plants during the last Ethiopian fiscal year, Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) said. During the year, 22 million quintals of   vegetables, fruits and beet plants has been harvested from the total farm land of 300, 000ha hectares of land and the year production surpassed the previous year harvest by 146pc.

Office Intercepts Contraband Goods

The Hawassa Branch Office of the Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority said it has intercepted contraband goods worth 11 million Birr over the past three months. The police seized the stated amount of goods through intensive investigation and aerial surveillance conducted in four check points including Hawassa, WolaitaSodo and Hosaina towns. The contraband goods include costumes, electronics and products of toilet constructions. The close to two million Birr reward has also been granted to whistle blowers, according to office Manager YaredFikade.
