Oilseed Outpaces Coffee in Export Revenue

Revenues from oilseeds has overtaken that of coffee in the four years of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) period. Oilseed revenue in the 2013-2014 fiscal year was 920 million dollars, up 201 million dollars on the revenue from coffee.

The export earnings from oilseeds has soared 10-fold within the GTP period. The revenue from oilseeds in the 2010-2011 fiscal year, which marked the beginning of the GTP, was 63.2 million dollars.

An increase in demand for oilseeds and high private involvement are the major causes for the successful performance of the export.

Revenue generated from coffee in the 2013-2014 fiscal year was 718.7 million dollars. Despite its ranking as the first export item of the country, revenue from coffee has been declining over time, falling to 720 million dollars from 842 million dollars at the beginning of the GTP.
