Report Notes Ethiopia’s Progress, Highest Poverty Rate

A four year case study on Ethiopia’s Development Progress shows positive growth of the country in many sectoral streams.

The report praised Ethiopia for its accomplishments in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which by the end of 2015, will be replaced by the Sustainable Development Goals recently adopted by the UN General Assembly.

The report goes further to say despite the fact that the country still has the highest poverty rate, its progress is taking place in multiple dimensions. It also touches up success report registered in Education sector –primary education gross enrollment has increased from 26pc into 2011 to 95pc as of 2013. In other hand secondary school enrollment reaches 34pc.

It has also raised criticism revolving around governance including restraint to civic participation. The report has recognized the pro-poor policy of the government.

The study was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and conducted by ODI, a UK based independent think thank on development and humanitarian issues.
