USAID Praises Own Healthcare Project

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in its meeting held at Addis Abeba, on November 13, 2014, appreciated the progress that has been registered through the Community Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (CPMTCT) project.

It is a five year program that launched in June 2009, that aimed to reduce the vulnerability of mothers giving birth and related issues.

During the project’s functional period, from 2009 to 2014, around 230 mother support groups were established. Among these, 96pc delivered their babies at health institutions. Ninty nine of them took medication vital for them and their child’s well-being at the time of birth.

The USAID funded project covered Addis Abeba, Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray regions and supported 519 public health centres, covering an estimated 14.2 million needy people.
