Addis Abeba University (AAU) has commenced a new MBA programme in Financial Services at the College of Business and Economics.

The MBA in the postgraduate programme was launched at a workshop facilitated by the Department of Accounting and Finance and attended by over 100 bankers, insurers, academics and researchers which was “meant to deliberate on the content, structure and eligibility of candidates of the programme” according to Abebe Yitayew (PhD, assistant prof.), Finance & Investment, College of Business & Economics At AAU.

The curriculum of the new programme targets bankers and insurance professionals as candidates, from both the public and private sectors.

“The curriculum is primarily initiated by the government – the Public Financial Institutions Supervising Agency –a government establishment entrusted to increase capacity of public banks in all aspects,” Abebe said in a written statement sent to Fortune.

The programme will start in a month’s time with the students specialising in either Banking or in Insurance.

The first batch of 50 students will be enrolled in the programme in two classes with 25 students each.
