Ethiopian to connect Uganda and South Sudan

Ethiopian Airline is going to start a direct flight to connect Uganda and Sudan South starting from this week.

Ethiopian Airlines has granted permission to operate direct flights between Entebbe and Juba from the two countries.

According to Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) communication manager Ignie Igundura, Ethiopian is doing everything possible to make aviation measure to international standards, safe, available and cost effective.

The Airlines has a total of 102 flight destinations, of which 84 are international destinations across the five continents with over 200 daily flights and the remaining 18 are domestic. Starting from July 1, 2014 Ethiopian starts daily flights to Arba Minch, Gambella, Jijiga and Assosa town.

Ethiopian secured 2.03 billion Br profit during the 2012/13 fiscal year. This is a 178pc increase compared to the previous year’s 734 million Br in 2011/12 fiscal year.

 

AEA Awards Outstanding Achievers in Architecture

The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA) awarded its eight members during an annual convention held on Friday, July 26, 2014, at the Sheraton Addis Hotel.

The association nominated eight architects under six categories, including outstanding achievement in architecture, town planning, architectural criticism or education, improvement of quality of human settlement (sustainable architecture), life time award and best student project.

“The award was made to encourage the members of the Association and other architects all over the country,” said Addisu Mebratu, president of the Association.

The Association’s 16th meeting was held to promote architectural development in the country and discuss how to improve the Association’s performance in the future, according to Addis.

The Association was established in 1984. Since its establishment, it has contributed assistance, research development services and training services for institutions such as Jimma University, the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association, Addis Ababa University, the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation, Bahir Dar University and the Oromia International Bank.
