Legislature to Reside Anew

The 72 years old building of the Ethiopian Parliament is soon to be replaced by a new building complex. The new Parliament quarters are expected to house its main convention hall, offices for the Members of Parliament (MPs), the administrative staff, the 13 standing committees and wings from both the ruling party and the opposition political parties.

The new building will be erected on 31,463sqm of land in front of the current parliament building. The task of designing the complex that will encompass the assembly of the two houses, was awarded to Addis Mebratu Consulting Architects, a local company on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. “This will give a valuable credit to Ethiopian construction design work to meet international standards,” Addis Mebratu, owner and general manager of the company, told Fortune.
