Tech Mahindra Rewarded $3.4m Project

Tech Mahindra has won the Addis Abeba Transport Programme Management Office (AATPMO) project bid for the implementation of a Business Intelligence System and Enterprise Resource Planning, at a cost of 3.4 million dollars.

The Programme Office is the first to implement the system among offices under the auspices of the Addis Abeba City Government.

During the opening of the tender, out of the six companies that placed offers to the Office, only two of them, Techno Brain and Tech Mahindra, made it through the preliminary technical evaluation to compete in the financial stage of evaluation.

The system will organise, define and standardise the work processes necessary to effectively plan and control an organisation.

The primary objective of the system is increasing the efficiency of project management at the Office, which makes it different to the same system implemented at tje Development Bank of Ethiopia and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.

The AATPMO was established in 2012, with the aim of facilitating different transport programmes and projects in the city.

The system will help the project manager to easily follow the progress of projects. It is also expected to raise transparency in the Office.

“The system will minimise cost in terms of administration and logistics, since information will be easily located after the implementation is done,” said Solomon Soka, business development manager of Tech Mahindra. “It will also help to eradicate the problem of good governance in the Office.”

Essentially, the implemented system involves ERP applications, which are a computer model of business, embodying the products and processes, information flow, procedures, and relationships between functions and activities.

The application is expected to provide recommendations for what must be accomplished in order to meet the forecasted demand and keep the business functioning smoothly.

Oracle is a software company that provides the solution used to implement the system. Oracle delivers hardware and software solutions that work together in the cloud and across various data centres.

Tech Mahindra and Oracle have been partners since 1998 and have worked in the installation of different systems across different countries.

Oracle has over 420,000 customers, which deploy its system across 145 countries.

The system will also allow the office to integrate with other stakeholders easily and in an efficient manner.

The planning system on ERP is based on the hierarchy level of functions – master planning, resource planning and execution, which involves production control and purchasing.

Besides the implementation, employees of the Office will also receive training from Tech Mahindra to comply with the system and ensure the transfer of knowledge and technology.

The system will be implemented six months after the signing agreement takes place in the coming weeks.

“Based on the efficiency of the system at our Office, it will also be implemented in other offices of the city government,” said Weyesa Hayissa, deputy director for the Management Office.

Recently, Tech Mahindra implemented the same system at the Development Bank of Ethiopia, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Electric Utility, at a cost of 780,000 dollars, 2.3 million dollars and 2.6 million dollars, respectively.
