Agency Procures Transformers for 2b Br

Ethiopian Electric Utilities has signed a procurement deal valued at two billion Birr for transformers.

The utility awarded the deal to seven local companies and signed a deal with two of them last week.

The utility is buying 4,978 transformers with capacities ranging between 50 and 1,250 KVA.

An agreement is expected to be reached with the other five companies in the coming days, according to a statement from the utility.

“When installed, the transformers are expected to alleviate the problems facing 60,000 customers who have paid all the necessary fees but haven’t received power connections yet,” said Shiferaw Telila, the company’s CEO.
