Authority Repairs Merkato Road

Addis Abeba City Road Authority is set to repair seven kilometres of damaged roads located in Merkato, the largest open marketplace in the capital.

The plan includes repairing asphalt roads and drainage systems. The total cost of the project, 14 million Br, will be covered by the city administration.

The internal engineering department of the Authority will undertake the project, according to Tiumay Woldegebriel, its communications director.

Despite the daily transportation congestion in the area, Merkato and its surrounding roads have not received any repairs for more than three years, he said.

In this fiscal year, the city administration has allocated 800 million Br for the repair of 435Km of roads in the city.
