Authority Seizes Local, Foreign Currency

The Ethiopian Revenues & Customs Authority (ERCA) seized local and foreign currency notes during a six-day sting operation at Bole International Airport.

The Authority seized 46,000 dollars, 3,000 euros, 3,500 dirhams and 54,000 Br. ERCA also confiscated an additional 4,000 dollars and 4,000 euros that smugglers were tying to take out of the country illegally through Serba and Metema.

ERCA additionally seized various equipment worth 115,000 Br, according to Ephrem Mekonnen, communications director at the Authority.

Different items, which were illegaly leaving the country through Hawassa, Moyale, Konso, Abosto and Dilla, were caught at checkpoints by inspectors of the Authority.
