First Accredited Private Food Laboratory Inaugurated

Bless Agri Foods, the first accredited private food laboratory, was inaugurated on 1 November 2014.

In attendance were Debretsion G/Michael (PhD), the minister of communication and information technology, Shimelis Admassu (PhD), deputy director general for the Food, Beverages and Pharmaceutical Industry Development Institute and Lidi Remmelzwaal, and the Netherlands government ambassador.

The food laboratory was constructed at an expense of 80 million Br, of which 52 million Br was required for construction. The remaining sum was used to purchase laboratory equipment.

The owners invested 62 million Br, while the Netherlands government contributed 17 million Br. The company has also agreed with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) for a donation of 30 million Br to fund the expansion of testing and to purchase additional equipment.
