Nation Remembers

Losing a leader typified by his eloquence and technocratic statesmanship, Ethiopia spent last week remembering the dreams and achievements of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. Series of commemorative activities had been undertaken throughout the week, in different places. One of the events was a candle night event held at Meskel Square for three consecutive days beginning Thursday. A crowd of people counting in tens of thousands remembered the examplary leadership of Meles by lighting their candles. They also wrote their words of tribute in the books of condolences sheltered in the many tents placed at the different corners of the Square. The Square will also host the official farewell today, according to the official schedule. Over 651 delegates representing 27 countries are expected to attend the event, including over 19 Heads of State and three prime ministers.
