Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute sent the nation’s first biotechnology policy to the Ministry of Science & Technology(MOST) for review and endorsement of its approval by the Council of Ministers (CoM).
The policy aims at formulating legal frameworks for the use of biotechnology outputs and conducting research.
Facilitating financial resources, regulations, and protecting biotechnology research from misuse, coordination of stakeholders, and climate change protection are among the cardinals of the policy, according to Wondim Tekilu, public relations director at the Institute which was established in 2016.
After reviewing the policy, MoST will send the document for approval to the CoM.
