State Supplies 1,160kg Pure Gold to NBE

Gambella Regional State supplied1,160kg pure gold worth 50 million dollars to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) during the just ended fiscal year.  The gold was supplied to the Bank by traditional miners. Close 90pc of the stated amount of gold was supplied from DimmaWereda. More than 30,000 citizens are engaged in mining including those organized in associations in the state.

Zone Transplanting 15m Seedlings

A little more than 15 million tree seedlings are being transplanted on 4,440ha land in 54 rural localities in GinirWereda of Bale Zone, Oromia Regional State. Close to 14, 100 farmers are taking part in the seedling transplantation activity, according to KedirYesak, zonal agriculture office head. So far 4.5 million of the seedlings are transplanted. Kedir said some of the seedlings are fodder plants. Meanwhile, 6,800 hectares land is prevented from human and animal contact, he said.

Three Irrigation Projects Go Operational

Three irrigation projects constructed in West Shoa Zone of Oromia Regional State during the just ended fiscal year with 40 million Br have gone operational. A little more than 2,000 households benefited from the projects constructed in collaboration with the government and the public. The projects have capacity to develop 832ha land and enabled farmers harvest more than twice a year. Close to 1.5 million quintals output was harvested from an area of 15,000ha land developed through irrigation last year in the zone, it said.

Zone Transplanting 196m Seedlings

Close to 196 million seedlings are being transplanted in Arssi Zone, Oromia Regional State during the current main rainy season. The seedlings are being transplanted on 19,600 hectares depleted land in 24 rural Weredas of the zone, according to Adem Bushi, the zonal agriculture & rural development office head. Eighty percent of the total 160 million seedlings transplanted in the zone last year have already taken roots, he said.

Wereda Transplanting 157,300 Fruit Seedlings

A little over 157,300 fruit seedlings are being transplanted in Guagusa Shikudad Wereda, Awi Zone of Amhara Regional State, the Wereda agriculture development office said. Natural resource work process coordinator with the office, Dereje Woldegerima said the seedlings are prepared by farmers, cooperatives and government owned seedling nurturing centers. Dereje said farmers are showing increased interest to engage in vegetable and fruit development in the Wereda. He said activities are underway to enable farmers in the areas generate additional income through engaging in vegetable and fruit development.

East Wollega Earns Four Million Birr from Hides, Skins

Four million Birr was secured from 199,320 hides and skins supplied to the central market from East Wollega Zone, Oromia Regional State during the just ended fiscal year. The number of hides and skins supplied to the market during the reported period exceeded by 54,830 while the income also surpassed by over 1.8 million Br that of same period last year.

Farmers Earn 4.3m Br from Coffee Sale

Close to 1,300 farmers in South AcheferWereda of West Gojjam Zone, Amhara Regional State earned 4.3 million Br income from sale of 579.4ql coffee during the just ended fiscal year. The farmers managed to improve their livelihoods through engaging in coffee development since the last eight years, according to Yeshambel Dereje, vegetable and fruit expert of the Wereda. The expert said 123,670 coffee seedlings are being transplanted in nine coffee growing localities.
