AGRICULTURE

Bench Maji Farmers, Pastoralists Secure 328m Br

A little more than 15,364 farmers and pastoralists in Bench maji Zone of Southern Regional State earned over 328 million Br profit from animal fattening during the last fiscal year. Farmers and pastoralists from 10 Weredas supplied 68,364 fattened large and small stock animals to the market, according to Lakew Alemu, animal resource development work process acting owner with the Wereda. The income, number of fattened animals, and participant farmers and pastoralists exceeded by 100 million Br, 30,000 heads and 6,000 farmers and pastoralists, respectively, compared to that of the previous year.

South Wolo Farmers Ensure Food Security

Close to 300,000 farmers in South Wolo Zone of Amhara Regional State ensured food security during the just ended fiscal year. The farmers ensured food security after involving in various development activities undertaken in 20 Weredas through development safety net program, according to Mohamed Yusouf, head of the zone. The Government had allocated over 200 million Br for the implementation of development safety net program during the reported period, he said.

Southern Region to Construct, Expand 21 TVET Institutions

Southern Regional State has set target to construct and expand 21 new and existing technical and vocational institutions at a cost of 174 million Br during this fiscal year. Up on going fully operational, each institution will enroll 7,000 students in 86 fields including construction, automotive, electronics and electricity, textiles as well as metal and wood work. Similarly, up to 45 percent of construction of 15 TVET institution which was launched last year with an outlay of 353 million Br has so far completed.

Hawassa Completed First Phase of Cultural Center

The first phase of construction of cultural center being built in Hawassa Town, Southern Regional State at a cost of 70 million Br has been completed. The first phase of the construction of a hall which has 1,500 seats is completed with a cost of 40 million Br. In the second phase, construction of a museum will be undertaken at a cost of 30 million Br.

Awi Constructed 600 Safe Water Facility Units

Awi Zone of Amhara Regional State has been constructed 661 safe water facility units with a cost of 23million Br. The projects will benefit some 108, 000 people while go fully operational, according to Yeneagumas Degu, zonal water resource department head. Close to 554 of the projects are completed. These units lifted zonal pure water coverage from 54.8pc to 59 pc, Yeneagumas noted.

INVESTMENT

Investors Undertaking 51m Br Worth Project

Twelve investors with aggregate capital of 51 million Br are undertaking various projects in Hadia Zone of Southern Regional State, Zonal trade and industry department. The provided 640ha of land to these investors to carryout their projects. Upon going fully operational, the projects will create more than 580 job opportunities.Close to 370ha of land is already prepared for further investment projects.

TOURISM

Harar Visited by 41,000 Tourists

Harar City tourist sites have been visited by close to 41,000 tourists. More than 25 million Br has been collected from those domestic and foreign tourists, according to Yesmin Zekaria, head of the city culture, tourism and heritages Bureau. Close to 7,302 of the visitors are foreigners while the remaining are Ethiopians. The Wall of Jugol, ancient houses circumscribed by the wall and the five Jugol gates,and museums are among the spots visited by tourists. The number of visitors and the revenue collected exceeded by 36pc and 33pc, respectively, compared to that of the previous year, Yesmin noted.
