Borena Zone Undertakes Projects Worth 90.7m Br

Close to 56 development projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of pastoralists are being undertaken in Borena Zone of Oromia State with 90.7 million Br. The government is engaging in the projects to benefit 453,000 pastoralists by constructing seven health stations, nine water projects, 24 primarily schools and 11 veterinary health posts, according to Berhanu Mamo, head of the zonal community affairs office.

Zone Purchases Fertilisers for 180m Br

The west Hararge Zone purchased fertilisers for 180 million Br allocated by the government in an effort to increase productivity in the zone. The fertilisers will be distributed among 180,000 farmers in the zone and will be used to develop over 94,000ha of land.

Hawassa Collects 400m Br Revenue

The Hawassa Town Administration collected 400 million Br in revenue during the last six months of the current fiscal year. The revenue was collected from direct and indirect tax as well as municipality services, according to Yonas Yosef, mayor of Hawassa. The amount exceeded the same period last year by 191 million Br.

Zone Collects 160m Br Revenue

Close to 160 million Br revenue was collected in North Shoa Zone, Amhara Regional State during the first six months of the current fiscal year. The office said the revenue was collected from direct and indirect taxes. The amount surpassed by over 40.9 million Br that of same period in the previous year. The growth in the amount is attributed to the increase in the number of tax payers and integrated activities of executives and employees at all levels. Activities are underway to collect 256 million Br in revenue during the fiscal year.

Hides, Skin Products Export Earns $58m

Ethiopia earned 58 million dollars from the export of skin and hide products in the first two quarters of the current fiscal year. During the 2010/11 fiscal year, export revenue from skin and hides grew nearly two fold earning 104.3 million dollars. During the 2011/12 fiscal year, the revenue increased by 7.4pc compared with the previous year, according to figures from the Ministry of Trade.

Over 12m People Gain Access to Safe Drinking Water

Close to 12 million people have gained access to safe drinking water during the two and a half year implementation period of the Growth & Transformation Plan (GTP), the Ministry of Water & Energy (MoWE) said. The beneficiaries of the potable water facilities are rural dwellers, said Bizuneh Tolcha, public relations & communications directorate director at the MoWE.

Arssi Zone Constructs 950 Safe Water Projects

The construction of 950 safe water projects was launched in Arsi Zone of Oromia Regional State with 235 million Br. The projects have been carried out in 24 rural weredas since last month, according to Getachew Abebe, zonal office deputy.  The projects, which will be operational within a year, will be able to provide service to half a million residents for 20 years.

Second Round of Lehulu Billing System Kicks Off

The second round of the Lehulu billing system kicked off on Tuesday, March 05, 2013, Debretsion Gebremichael, minister for Communications & Information Technology announced last week. The second round of Lehulu will be carried out in 32 centres including the newly opened centre in the Hayahulet area.
