Town Issues 22 Investment Licences

The town ofAxum, in the central zone of Tigrai Region, issued licences for 22 businesses. The businesses have an aggregate capital of 339.2 million Br and are to take part in construction, urban agriculture, hotel industry and social services. 500,000ha of land have already been received and are expected to create 1,180 jobs, according to the town administration.

Hawassa Secures 16.8m Br from Tourism

Hawassa town, of the Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples (SNNP) Region, secured more than 16.8 million Br from the tourists who visited the town and its environs in the region in the last three months. About 57,860 tourists have visited the town and neighbouring areas according to the Culture, Tourism & Government Communication Affairs department. More than 47,720 of the total visitors are domestic visitors.

Nation Secures $47.9m from Leather

Ethiopiahas secured 47.9 million dollars from the export of leather and leather products over the past five months, the Leather Industry Development Institute said. The stated sum secured is 43.6pc less than the targeted revenue. Finished leather contributes 82pc of total revenue, while footwear adds up to 14pc.

Rotary Int’l Grants 3m Br for Polio Eradication

Rotary International (RI) granted over three million Birr to enhance Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) strategies in the risk areas ofEthiopia. The grant is shared among the spearheaded Rotary International partners, namely World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) each receiving 1.879 million Br and 1.6 million Br, respectively. The fund is used for strengthening the importance of vaccine, cold chain, conducting advocacy and addressing logistic gaps in 171 weredas in 2012/2013.

Great Ethiopian Run Donates 1.3m Br

The Great Ethiopian Run donated over 1.3 million Birr to four beneficiary charitable organizations selected by the Ministry of Women, Children, & Youth Affairs. The money was raised during the 2012 Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) Great Ethiopian Run. The amount exceeds the year’s targeted fund raising scheme of 1.2 millionBr.

US Launches Livestock Market Development Programme

TheUnited Statesgovernment launched 52 million dollars Pastoralist Resilience Improvement & Market Expansion (PRIME) programme. The new five year programme addresses adaptation to climate change, food security, livestock market development in pastoralist areas of Afar, Oromia, and Somali regional states. The benefits reach over 250,000 households.
