Telemedicine service aimed at delivering health service using Information & Communications Technology (ICT), launched in three health centers of Addis Abeba, proved failure, mainly due to problem of getting Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The online medical consultation given from Yekatit-12 Hospital was interrupted before two months due to incapability of getting the CDMA card.

INVESTMENT

City Renew 108,000 Commercial Registrations

The Addis Abeba City Administration Trade & Industry Bureau has renewed more than 108,000 commercial registrations during the annual renewal schedule from July 8 to October 10, 2012. The office has also renewed 139,000 trade licenses, 80pc of the total 169,000 traders in the City administration.

Premier Promises to Raise Indian Investment

The Ethiopia Government will exert every effort to raise the current 4.5 billion dollars Indian Investment to 10 billion dollars by the end of the Growth & Transformation Plan (GTP). Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, during his talk with Indian business delegations on Monday, November 18, 2012, promised thatEthiopiawill provide the necessary support to Indian investors.

CONSTRUCTION

Irrigation Dams Under Construction

The construction of Rib and Gidabo irrigation dams in Amhara, Oromia and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) states  is undertaking at a cost of 1.6 billion Br. Rib Dam, being constructed in Ebanet & Farta Weredas ofAmharaState, with an outlay of 1.3 billion Br, will have a capacity to hold 234 million cubic meter water. And Gidabi dam, being undertaken in Oromia and SNNP states will hold 117.8 million cubic meters, according to the Ministry of Water and Energy.

Office Allocates 1.3m Br to Rehabilitate, Ensure Safety of Roads

The Ethiopian Road Safety Fund Office allocated 1.3 billion Br to undertake rehabilitation of existing roads and ensure safety of roads in this fiscal year. The office also recalls that rehabilitation and insuring safety of 280Km roads has been undertaken at a cost of over 1.2 billion Br over last year.

HawassaUniversityOpens New Campus

HawassUniversityopens new campus at Yirgalem town ofSouthern Nations Nationalitiesand Peoples (SNNP) state with a cost of 55 million Birr. The campus constructed on 65ha land has dormitories with a capacity to give service to 800 students and classrooms. Over 320 million Br is allocated to undertake additional expansion work for the campus.
