Parliament Gives Green Light to Census Commission




Parliament approved the members of the Census Commission on November 27, 2018. The newly appointed members of the Commission are responsible for managing and overseeing the upcoming census of the country.

The 20 members of the Commission were proposed by the office of the Prime Minister and consist of half of the ministerial cabinet.

The commission is composed of Muferiat Kamil, minister for Peace, Ahmed Shide, minister of Finance, Omar Hassen, minister for Agriculture & Livestock Resource, Dagmawit Moges, minister of Transport, Amin Aman (MD), minister of Health, and Fitsum Assefa (PhD), Commissioner of the National Planning & Development Commission.

Similarly, Shimeles Abdissa, chief of staff in the Office of the Prime Minister; Jantirar Abay, minister for Urban Development & Construction; Yalemtsegay Asfaw, minister for Women, Youth & Children, Temesgen Burka, Democratic Institution Building Coordinator, and Keria Ibrahim, speaker of the House of Federation, and other officials from the regional states are included in the list.

The last census was conducted in 2007, which has to be held every ten years.
