Sahleworq Zewde Unanimously Voted In as President

Parliament has unanimously approved the presidency of Sahleworq Zewde.

Sahleworq was a career diplomat for Ethiopia and served as an ambassador to Djibouti and France.

She was also a senior staff member for the United Nations based in Nairobi and has recently been stationed in Addis Abeba. She resigned from her job at the United Nations this week ahead of her appointment.

She is the fourth president of Ethiopia since the constitutional order was installed in the mid-1990s.

She replaces Mulatu Teshome (PhD), who has tendered his resignation following his four-year stint as president.
