UNDP Extends Hand for Good Governance

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged five million dollars to Ethiopia for a governance and democratic participation programme.

The loan agreement was signed on June 6, 2017, between Admasu Nebebe, state minister of Finance & Economic Cooperation and Ahunna Eziakona, UN resident coordinator, UNDP resident representative and humanitarian coordinator, at the premises of the Ministry of Finance & Economic Cooperation (MoFEC).

The multi-stakeholder and multi-year programme has an estimated budget of 40 million dollars over five years from June 2017 to December 31, 2021.

The main objective of the programme is to support the country’s endeavours towards enhancing institutional capacities and frameworks it will also strengthening good governance and deepening democratic participation in line with the constitution and international human rights conventions, according to Admasu.

The Parliament, House of Federation, Anti-Corruption Commission, Electoral Board of Ethiopia and the Office of the Attorney General are part of the government institutions that are going to be beneficiaries of the fund.
