The World Bank has approved a 200 million dollars loan for Ethiopia, of which three-fourth is to be used to expand the capacity of Modjo Dry Port, 73Km east of Addis Abeba. The Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) is undertaking an expansion project from its current capacity of holding 14,500 containers and handle over 90pc of the country’s trade.
“This helps the country to develop the first ever dry port with the international standard,” said Aklile Tessema, architecture engineering head of ESLSE.
The remaining 50 million dollars of the loan will be used to develop standardisation practice, metrology, accreditation, and conformity assessment services.
