Federal Judges Deny Bail Right for Kinfe, Essayas

Federal judges have denied an appeal for bail by Kinfe Dagnew (Maj. Gen), former director general of the MetEC, and his brother, Essayas Dagnew, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Ethio-Telecom today.

A panel of three Judges at the 10th criminal bench of the Lideta Division have also given Police an additional 14-day custody right for further investigations.

The two were brought to court suspected of an alleged grand corruption case involving the misuse of office and mismanagement while working at the state-owned military-industrial complex, Metal & Engineering Corporation (MetEC) and Ethio telecom, respectively.

Last week, they appealed to the court for a public defender revealing a lack of finances for representation.

However, the court has rejected their appeal ruling that they can afford to hire defense lawyers.
