Female Chief Justice Unanimously Appointed

The parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of Meaza Ashanafi as president of the Federal Supreme Court.

Meaza Ashenafi, a prominent lawyer now working for the UN in Addis Abeba, is to swear-in before Parliament as Ethiopia’s first female Chief Justice, these sources disclosed.

A mother of two, Meaza had served in the commission that was established to write the constitution two decades ago, under Kifle Wodajo. She was a lead promoter and first executive officer of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association and one of the promoters of Enat Bank.
