Architects’ Association 17th Convention Highlights Urban Design

The 17th Convention of the Association of Ethiopian Architects was held from August 28 to 29 at Sheraton Addis hotel with the theme “Designing Buildings+/=Designing Cities: Shaping the Built Environment”

Wondwossen Damtew, president of the Association further articulated the theme, defining the convention’s objective as heralding the message of building design and construction as part of the larger realm of a society, designing cities and shaping the built environment.

In his opening statement Hailemeskel Teffera, state minister for Urban, Housing & Development Construction, acknowledged the great contribution of the Association in transforming the national economy, particularly in addressing issues that negatively affect the advancement of the construction industry in particular.

At the convention, researchers, academics and construction players discussed and shared their experiences.

Critical issues such as, land use, building height and urban design were presented and discussed.
