Ethio-Djibouti Council Discusses Railway in Eighth Meeting

The Ethio-Djibouti Joint Ministerial Council held its eighth meeting to discuss the progress of the 752Km Ethio-Djibouti railway from Sebeta, Ethiopia to Doraleh, Djibouti.

The railway, which is 81pc complete from Addis Abeba to Mieso, 93pc from Mieso to Dawanle, and 84pc from Dawanle to Doraleh, costs 1.8 million dollars for the first line, 1.4 million dollars for the second section and 578 thousand dollars for the last.

The Addis Abeba to Mieso section began in February 2012, Mieso to Dawanle in April 2012 and Dawanle to Doraleh in September 2013.

The projects are contracted to two Chinese companies – RCEC and CCECC, the two having 42 months to  complete the projects.

“The projects are at a good pace and will be completed in the stipulated time,” said Workineh Gebeyehu minister of Transport during the meeting held on July 23, 2015 at Sheraton Addis.
