Bilateral Talks

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (left), president of Equatorial Guinea, met with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn in the former’s three-day visit to Ethiopia at the National Palace on February 22.

Having arrived at Addis Abeba last week, the president was welcomed by Worqeneh Gebeyehu (PhD) upon his arrival at the Bole International Airport along with the Prime Minister.

Mbasogo, who has been president of the Central African nation for almost four decades, held talks with Hailemariam concerning defence and infrastructure development. They also signed agreements in these areas.

The visit comes on the backdrop of a tense political situation in Ethiopia that led to the reinstatement of a State of Emergency by the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister’s historic decision to resign from his post.

“We have to recognise here the political maturity of Ethiopia’s vision,” Mbasogo was quoted saying by the state-run Ethiopian News Agency on the latter issue.
