The countdown towards the first bottle of Habesha Beer to hit the markets in the third week of April 2014 was kick-started on January 17, 2013 at the Sheraton Hotel. The Brewery will be the sixth to enter the Ethiopian market. Habesha which started selling shares in 2010 managed to get 250 million Br in authorised capital after selling 35pc of the 250,000 shares it floated to the Dutch brewer Bavaria NV.
It will get handed the keys to its Greenfield brewery located in Debre Birhan Town 130Km north of Addis Abeba, which has an annual capacity of 500,000 hectoliters, four months from now. The turnkey project for the brewery construction on 7.5ha of land was handed to the Chinese company Lehui Machineries, for 510.7 million Br in September 2011. “Once the initial production starts further investments will be made here because the country is extremely profitable-even more than expected” Hans van der Veen (right), board of director atBavariatold Fortune.
