Drilling Well


Addis Ababa Water and Sanitation Development & Rehabilitation Project, which is under the Addis Abeba Water & Drainage Authority, is currently drilling water wells it has started since February, 2011. Out of the total number of 67 water wells to be drilled a few number the wells are finalized and begun supplying water for the city residents.

The drilling is undertaken by five companies, Tana Drilling & Industry Plc, Layne Company, Xiangxi Contractor, Engineering Construction & Contracting, and CDC. Upon completion, 223, 000 cubic meter of water is expected a day, according to Mr. Tsegenet Berhe, CEO of Tana Drilling & Industry Plc.

The cost of each well ranges from 6.5 million Br to 10 million Br. The budget to cover the cost is secured from the government, CDC, and the World Bank (WB).
