Pinning Hopes on China

Tedros Adhanom (PhD), minister of Foreign Affairs was enthusiastic about how Ethiopia’s mega development projects are being carried out with the support from China, while he held talks on Monday, January 6, 2014, with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, at the Ministry’s headquarters located opposite the Hilton Addis.

The projects, he said, have contribution to the successful implementation ofEthiopia’s Growth & Transformation Plan (GTP). The Chinese Foreign Minister has appreciatedEthiopia’s role in ensuring peace and security on the African continent. He said the Chinese Government is committed to supporting all the peace efforts towards resolving the current crisis inSouth Sudan.

Tedros stated that many mega development projects are being carried out with the support fromChina, which he said have contribution to the successful implementation ofEthiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP). He is expected to visitDjibouti,GhanaandSenegalas part of his official visit toAfrica. It has been for Chinese foreign ministers to first visitAfricaevery New Year. This latest visit of Wang is the first visit by the country’s Foreign Minister to sub-Saharan Africa sinceChina’s new administration took office.
