Addis Gets Mayor, Deputy Mayors

Takele Uma Benti, former head of the Oromia Transport Bureau, has been appointed to serve as Addis Abeba’s new mayor, replacing Diriba Kuma.

Takele is not a councillor of the city administration, thus installed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) as deputy mayor with the rank of a Mayor.

An engineer by training, Takele has once served as mayor of Holeta and Suluta towns, both in Oromia Regional State. The city council has also elected Solomon Kidane (PhD), head of Addis Abeba Roads & Transport Bureau, and Dagmwait Moges, communications director of the city administration, as deputy mayors.
