Foreign Office Forms Agency for the Diaspora

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is forming the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency, an institution with the mandate of ensuring the rights of Ethiopians abroad.

The Agency comes to life following the approval of the Council of Ministers. It will have an advisory board, director and deputy director general, to be appointed by the administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Agency will have its own budget and reports to the parliament.

“We’re finalising legal frameworks for the establishment of the Agency,” said Meles Alem, spokesperson of the Ministry.
