Premier Appoints an Economist to Lead Planning Comm’n

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed Eyob Tekalegn as a Minister in charge of the National Planning Commission (NPC).

Established a couple of years ago under the premiership of Hailemariam Desalegn, Eyob will be the third official to serve NPC as a Minister, in the footsteps of Mekonnen Manyazewal and Yinager Dessie (PhD).

A graduate of economics from Meqelle University, Eyob is a candidate for doctoral studies in political economy at the University of Maryland College Park, scheduled to defend his thesis in September this year. He has a public service background, also serving as a diplomat at the Ethiopian Embassy in the United States. He has been serving as a director for SGI Frontier Capital, a private equity firm, before his current appointment.
