Anti-Corruption Commission Expands Jurisdiction

The Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) announced its preparation to receive reports and complaints of alleged acts of corruption in private institutions and established to serve the public from the public coffer.

This will be done as per the revised law, Proclamation No. 883/2015, which stipulates that the private sector, particularly those who administer assets collected from the public or collected for public purposes are within the jurisdiction of the Commission.

Before the revision of this law, the jurisdiction of the Commission was limited to government offices and government enterprises only.

It was confirmed by the FEACC, that any allegations of corruption committed since the date on which the revised law was published on Negarit Gazeta, April 3, 2015, falls under its jurisdiction.

Established in 2001, the FEACC which is responsible for tackling corruption at all levels, had indicated in its nine-month performance report for 2014/2015 that it had received 2,338 reports of corruption from whistleblowers, of which 44.5pc came within its jurisdiction. In the last nine months, the Commission was able to finalise the investigation of 257 files.
