Eight Employees of EEPCo Arrested

The Federal High Court, last week, granted the Federal Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) 14 days to investigate further into the cases of eight employees of the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo).  The employees were arrested by the Federal Police for allegedly allowing the purchase of 5,202 used transformers from two Indian companies and embezzling close to 25 million dollars.

Mesfin Berhane, Distribution System manager and Mekonnen Berhane, head of Distribution Technical departemet was arrested in connection of the procurement of 3,520 used transformers which led the government to loss close to 17.7 million dollars, according to the press release issued by the Commission.

These suspects, which along with Shefaraw Talela, National Electric Supply Programme manager; Million Matosala, head of Engineering department; Daniel Gebreselassi, head of Supply Chain department and Semera Asabe, representative of Engineering Process department were taken into custody, for the alleged procurement of 1,950 used transformers. Three other employees of EEPCo are also in custody in connection to the case.
