Addis Abeba received President Issayas Afeworqi

A line of leaders and officials wait at Bole International Airport to welcome Eritrea's President Issayas Afeworqi.

While driving out of the airport, Issayas was welcomed by residents of Addis Abeba and surrounding areas which line up on the sides of the roads.

The Eritrean and Ethiopian flag flew alongside each other for the first time in years.

T-shirts with the image of both Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and President Issayas were sold on the streets.

Face-painters draw the flag of both countries on the faces of residents.

Banners both handmade and printed were displayed on the streets.

Some residents came out with traditional garments playing the drum and singing.

Residents of Addis Abeba were out on the streets to receive Eritrea’s President Issayas Afeworqi.
